Last night’s celebration of the new Armani / 5th Avenue store was an off-the-charts affair of triple-A list stars. Mr. Armani — looking as dashing as ever — hosted the opening of his 43,000-square-foot concept among the likes of Martin Scorcese, Robert Deniro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Caroline Kennedy, Victoria Beckham, Liam Neeson, Mira Sorvino, Mario Testino, Ricky Martin, John Mayer, January Jones, Emile Hirsch and Josh Hartnett…to name a few. Seriously, it was that fabulous.
We caught up with PAPER all-star Milla Jovovich (four-time covergirl!) to check in on her Fashion Week thus far. A longtime fan and friend of Armani’s, Milla said she was thrilled to visit the dazzling new space but was keeping her week low-key otherwise: mostly she’s supporting close friends who are showing. We said hello to Rachel Zoe (who we hadn’t chatted with since last attending a super-swish-Fashion-Week-party-fêting-a-legendary-Italian-designer) and then we dished our fave Fashion Week shows and mutual love of stud guns with her awesome assistant Brad Goreski.
All the hobnobbing, rubbernecking and flashbulbing, however, could not detract from the sweeping grandeur of this new flagship design. Spread over four floors, the store is a modern, glossy cathedral for worshiping Armani. All of his lines are brought together under one expansive roof, from the opening-price-point Armani Jeans to Armani/Casa to the Giorgio Armani collections. There’s also an Armani Ristorante (where a private dinner was held later on) and an area dedicated to new accessories exclusive to the location. A single swirling staircase weaves all of these Armani worlds together. It’s a dizzying sculptural centerpiece and perhaps a symbol of the designer’s epic journey through fashion itself.
