Kwiat & colette x GAP

Last week, PAPER hit the posh opening of Kwiat’s first flagship store on Madison Avenue. The elegant 1,000-square-foot UES store coincides with the company’s 100th anniversary, and a celebration of cocktails and diamond-ogling seemed in order. Songstress Jennifer Hudson — who had worn Kwiat jewelry the night of her Oscar win — stopped by.

She looked radiant in emerald green but could not outshine the baubles as several pieces from the Kwiat collections were removed from their custom-made display cases for revelers to try on. Getting a little nervous around $1M necklaces, we shifted our gaze to the space’s appointed touches instead…an 18-foot atrium with a shimmering chandelier, a dramatic white marble stairway in the back, and textured champagne-colored walls that complement the light blue and gray hues of the boutique.

Less haute and more hip is the just-opened colette x GAP concept store, situated alongside GAP’s NYC flagship on Fifth Ave. and 54th Street. The store is just a slice of white retail space, and though it certainly lacks the magic of the wunder-boutique back on rue Saint-Honoré, the mix of wares inside is consistently cool. There are some fresh colette collabs with brands like Oakley and Kiehl’s, and The Gap Grey Jersey line of accessories is quirky and cute (especially the bow-tie evening bag by Alexis Mabille). This is the first time products from the popular Parisian shop are selling in the States (not counting the colette booth at PAPER‘s 24-Hour Department Store during our L.A. PAPER Project!) and the store will be around for one month…which is about how long you have to wait to actually get inside. We suggest perusing and purchasing the limited edition goods online instead.
