Word of Mouth: Partying With Perez
This November, Paper is all about the nightlife, and keeping with the theme, we hit new nightspot Citrine on Friday night to party with Perez Hilton. We asked the internet sensation what he misses most about NYC nightlife since he moved to LA several years ago. After a moment of pause and a sip of his cocktail, a dapper looking Perez replied, "My favorite place in LA is this gay bar called Akbar. I love it, but at 1:45am they flick on the lights and literally kick everybody out. At 1:45! I love that I can stay out 'til 4am here and there's so much to do!"
Following this intimate affair, it was off to the Highline Ballroom, where the "Queen of All Media" hosted his "One Night In NYC" CMJ party with performances by Lady Gaga (who he introduced as "the future of pop music"), Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Semi Precious Weapons, Yo Majesty and ending the night with a Perez appropriate Madonna marathon from DJ Chip Duckett. Perez told us that "the most important ingredient to throwing a kick ass Perez party is GREAT MUSIC. First and foremost!" And great music is what the audience got.

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings kicked off the show with Ms. Jones's powerhouse, soulful vocals. Lesbian electro-rappers Yo Majesty ordered us to get our booty clappin', while we spotted one of the Brooklyn “Real World” cast members being filmed. Glam rockers Semi Precious Weapons really got the crowd in a tizzy. (Their best line, "I can't pay my rent but I'm fucking gorgeous," should be every New Yorker's anthem). Lead singer Justin Tranter referred to Lady Gaga as "a tranny with a real vagina" as she took to the stage. Looking like a futuristic Barbie doll, Gaga delivered an ambitious performance, accompanied by hooded male dancers in front of a screen that displayed clips of her cutting her bleach blonde locks. If you missed out on this hot mess of a bash, you can still party like Perez at his favorite hot spot The Box. "I LOVE the shows there! The whole experience reminds me of the mid to late '90s when I was in college at NYU. Those were the days!"
